If you’ve been blogging for a while, you know how difficult it can be to come up with blog topics from time to time. Whether it be a case of writer’s block or simply not having the time to come up with blog post ideas the issue of blog topic ideas can be a difficult one to balance at times, which is why having an editorial calendar can really come in handy. While it can be a challenge, I have found that there are blog topics hiding in many places, you just have to be creative about where to look. This list is not exhaustive, by any means, but meant to get those creative juices flowing.
Search the Web
Whether you’re a well-seasoned blogger, or just starting a blog I believe one of the best places to look for blog topics is the internet. There is a wealth of information available, just keep your blog’s niche in mind when searching. Are you a personal finance blogger? Then major finance sites or news sites might be a good place to start. Likewise if you’re a lifestyle blogger then entertainment or special interest sites could be a great source of blog topic ideas. Don’t limit it to non-blog sites though. Did you read something on your favorite blog recently that gave you an idea for a different angle, or something the author didn’t cover? If you did, then you could be well on your way to coming up with a blog post.
Ask Your Readers
Unless your blog is simply meant as an online journal, you’re likely wanting to bring readers back – this is especially the case if you’re looking to make money blogging. An easy way to get blog topics is simply by asking your readers. This can be as simple as asking them in a poll, or at the end of a blog post. If you’re running a series on a specific topic you can ask them throughout the series what they’d like to see. This allows you to tailor the posts more towards them and potentially increase interaction on following posts. Seeing as traffic can be the lifeblood for most blogs, tailoring content to your readers is a great way to bring them back and hopefully grow your audience over time.
Look at Older Posts for Blog Topics
One of the best sources for blog topics is under our own noses – our own blogs! If you’ve been blogging for some time, it’s likely you have dozens, if not hundreds of blog posts already written. A great way to find blog topics is to go back and look at some of those old blog posts. Did someone leave a comment that can be addressed, or is there new information available that you could address in a separate post? By taking some time and perusing your archives you could easily come up with several new blog topic ideas and never have to leave your own site.
