Guest Post: A Simple Organization Tip to Make Your Blogging Life Easier!

Keeping track of other bloggers

I LOVE to read other blogs. In fact I find myself spending more time reading other’s blogs than writing my own!

This winter, when I started seriously blogging, I needed a way to streamline how I kept up on my blog reading. Now, I know that I could subscribe to blog readers, but I really like actually visiting blogs to read them.

So, I came up with a way to do just that!

Making Folders

One day while I was straightening up my bookmarks in my Favorites bar I realized that I could create folders in my favorites bar.

The first folder I created was called Daily2Read. These are the blogs like Blogelina that I want to check daily for new and inspiring blog posts!

For a few weeks I would open this folder and systematically open each website and read any updates.

Then one day I saw at the very bottom of the folder, “open in tabs”. So, I clicked on it!

Opening  a series of tabs at once!

Poof! It took a few minutes to load, but ALL my favorite blogs were opened in separate tabs!

Now I make it a habit to “open in tabs” all my favorite blogs before I take the kids to the bus. When I get back home I can quickly read and close each tab.

Streamlining blogging challenges

As a blogger I also like to participate in challenges like Blogelina’s 100 comments challenge.

Using the same folder method, I put new bloggers I am in a current challenge with in a folder.

That makes it easy for me to read all of their blogs during the challenge and interact with comments.

Blogging is a fun and time consuming job. I hope these tips give you more commenting time!

  1. I bookmark my favorite blogs too, sorted into categories (Wife & Mom Blogs, Writer Blogs, Photography Blogs, etc.). I rotate them and make sure that they get displayed as part of my blogroll once in a while. Makes it very easy to check for updates when they’re on my blogroll sidebar. :)

  3. Those are great tips! I had thought of trying to make a Pinterest board for all the blogs I like but Pinterest and productivity don’t exactly go hand in hand (for me, anyway!).

  4. I use Google Reader. You can make as many groups as you want to, and GR lets you know when a link has a new post (so you don’t have to keep visiting URLs to see if there’s something new). Works GREAT for me!

  5. This is a great idea. I don’t know why I hadn’t thought of it before. I use bloglovin for most of mine but it takes so long loading each one that I’ve been wanting to just go to each seperately. This should help. Thanks.
